The story

1996

James Phillips founds Reflex. A semi-professional windsurfer frustrated by the poor quality of available supplements, James builds his own manufacturing facility in Brighton rather than using a contract packer. The founding principle: if you want it done right, do it yourself.

Early years

Instant Whey Pro launches. One of the first high-protein, low-fat, low-sugar whey proteins in the UK market. Still a bestseller. Reflex builds its reputation on formulation quality, not marketing spend.

2000s

Reflex Science Park opens. A purpose-built manufacturing facility designed to pharmaceutical-grade production standards. Most supplement brands never own a factory. Reflex built a better one.

Now

Nearly 30 years in. Now part of AB Sports Nutrition under Associated British Foods. The manufacturing ethos, the product standards, and the refusal to cut corners remain unchanged.

Most supplement brands are marketing companies that outsource manufacturing to third-party packers with limited visibility into what goes into their products. Reflex built and operates its own facility in Brighton — full control over formulation, raw material sourcing, and quality at every stage of production.

Reflex products are tested under the Informed Sport programme — every batch checked against the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited list. That matters for competitive athletes, and it also tells you something about how seriously a brand takes what goes into its products.
