THE DAILY ROUTINE

Simple to take. Pleasant to drink.

01 / HOW IT TASTES

Mild, slightly milky, easy to like.

It's the question we're asked most, and the answer people are most relieved by. A light, neutral flavour with a soft, slightly milky texture. Nothing to swallow, nothing to get used to.

02 / HOW TO TAKE IT

Open. Stir. Drink.

Tear the sachet, stir into a glass of cool water, fruit juice or yoghurt, and drink straight away. A few lumps are normal at this concentration. Press them with the back of a spoon and they're gone.

03 / WHEN TO TAKE IT

Any time. The pack sets no clock.

Morning or evening, whichever you'll remember. The manufacturer gives no time-of-day instruction, so build it into a routine you already have.

04 / HOW MUCH

Adults and children from 7: 1 to 2 sachets a day.

Children aged 3 to 6: up to half a sachet a day, stirred into yoghurt or fruit compote. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding or on medication, check with your doctor first.

05 / WHAT'S IN IT

8 strains. Gluten free.

Streptococcus thermophilus, four Bifidobacteria and three Lactobacilli, each identified on the pack by NCIMB number. Gluten free. May contain traces of milk.

THE DE SIMONE FORMULATION

The science behind the formulation.

    Eight strains selected and combined by the professor whose name the formulation carries. The pack calls it the original formula of Prof. De Simone.

  • Named in clinical guidelines

    The American Gastroenterological Association's 2024 pouchitis guideline identifies the De Simone Formulation by name. The European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation has done the same.

What ECCO stated. The European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation has published a formal correction notice in its Journal of Crohn's and Colitis, amended January 2024, stating that until 2016 the De Simone Formulation was sold as VSL#3®, that after 2016 "the VSL#3® product no longer contains DSF", and that the VSL#3 references in the ECCO Guidelines 2017 exclusively endorse the De Simone Formulation. → Read the ECCO correction notice. 


What the AGA guideline says. The American Gastroenterological Association's 2024 clinical practice guideline on pouchitis (Barnes et al., Gastroenterology 2024;166(1):59-85, PMID 38128971) identifies the De Simone Formulation by name as the probiotic used in the trials it reviewed.  → Read the guideline on PubMed.

What the UEG Journal confirms. A January 2026 correction in the United European Gastroenterology Journal states that studies previously attributed to VSL#3 assessed the De Simone Formulation, that the current VSL#3 product is not the same formulation, and that the De Simone Formulation is available in Europe under the brand name CDS22-formula.  → Read the correction.

The De Simone Formulation was created by Professor Claudio De Simone and studied under that name for more than twenty years. Until 2016 it was sold under another brand, and most of the early research was published under that name. Since 2016 the two have gone their separate ways, and the medical bodies quoted above have corrected the record. In Ireland the formulation is now sold as CDS22-formula

A few useful answers.

Can I take it every day?

Yes. It's designed for daily use. The manufacturer's directions are one to two sachets a day for adults and children aged 7 and over, and up to half a sachet a day for children aged 3 to 6. Most customers take one sachet at the same time each day, which is the easiest routine to keep. Follow the directions on the pack and don't exceed the recommended daily amount.

How should I store it when it arrives?

In the fridge, between 2 and 8°C, and keep it there. If you're travelling, it can be out of the fridge for up to a week at up to 25°C. Avoid leaving it anywhere hotter than that.

Does CDS22-formula need to stay refrigerated during delivery?

No. The manufacturer's leaflet states the product keeps its quality for up to a week at room temperature, up to 25°C. A day or two in transit is well within that window.

Is CDS22-formula the same as Vivomixx?

It is the same formulation as the original Vivomixx. It is not the same as Vivomixx Neo.

The original Vivomixx contained the De Simone Formulation developed by Professor Claudio De Simone: eight specific bacterial strains at 450 billion CFU per sachet. CDS22-formula contains that same De Simone Formulation, with its eight strains identified on the pack by their NCIMB deposit codes.

Vivomixx Neo is a different formulation. The UK Vivomixx website describes Vivomixx Neo as a revised 9-strain formulation, compared with the 8-strain De Simone Formulation used in the original Vivomixx and now sold as CDS22-formula.
